Google makes changes, cuts apps' access to make calls or SMSs

Google's play store's new policy has made changes for apps in India across shopping, news, garments and other categories.

This policy is made to ensure privacy of users data.

Previously apps would ask permission to access data which was not necessarily relevant to the app.

But with the new fixes, app can ask for permission relevant to the app. For example, a phone app can ask for permission only for contacts, and phone call related.

Payments app cannot ask to get access to SMSs, which means that they cannot automatically use OTPs.
