Ganesh idol immersion causes thousands of fishes to die

Ganesh Visarjan has taken a severe toll on marine life along the coastline of Mumbai.

On Thursday and Friday, several dead fishes and turtles were found washed ashore in Dadar and Juhu beaches.

This is the consequence of idols made out of PoP, the paints on the idol and nirmalaya the flower offering that goes along with the idol.

PoP has toxic pigments that reduce the oxygen in water and the flowers have bacteria that decompose, resulting in the death of marine creatures like fishes, turtles and snakes.
