HIV AIDS Act finally gets implemented

Health Ministry department announced on 10th September 2018 that the The HIV AIDS (prevention and control) Act 2017 has been implemented.

The bill allows people to report acts of discrimination against them in the field of employment, health care services, educational services, public facilities, property rights, holding public office, and insurance.

  1. Act penalizes propagation of hatred.

  2. The culprit can be fined up to one lakh rupees and jailed for minimum three months.

  3. It provides the right to confidentiality to HIV related information and the right to get informed about any information related to HIV

  4. The law makes it mandatory for state governments to appoint an Ombudsman to inquire into complaints related to the violation of the Act and the provision of health care services.
